Me First and the Gimme Gimmes make their first return to the London since they sold out 2 nights at the Astoria in 2006. With a couple of albums released since then, they have even more reworkings or some of your most hated songs.

The show is opened by promising young Londoners Kill Casino. Front woman Karen Luan is feisty and energetic and her band members are equally enthusiastic for what must be one of the biggest shows they have played.

Second up is Useless ID, one of Israel’s most successful rock bands. Hardly the home of Hardcore Punk, but they come out all guns blazing and put in a performance equally we received by their loyal followers and newly gained fans alike.

With Fat Mike of NoFX back in the band, this is as much a punk concert as it is a comedy show. The Gimmes, wearing matching Hawaiian shirts, launch straight into a lightspeed rendition of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. “The next song is a cover!” announces Spike Slawson as they go into ‘Jolene’ to a rapturous cheer. The appearance of a Ukulele for a cover of R Kelly’s ‘I Believe I could Fly’ should be a disaster, but ends up a punk gem. “Release your inner cunt for this next song” Spike says before kicking off the encore of ‘My Boyfriend’s Back’ before the mosh pit erupts for the last time.

Even the most miserable of punks will have left the Koko with the biggest grin on their face and a shirt dripping with sweat. The Gimmes are like musical Prozac, and their CD’s should be handed out on prescription.
