It’s been 10 years since Static-X first hit the scene with the stunning ‘Wisconsin Death Trip’. 10 years later they are back with their 6th studio album, ‘Cult of Static’ and a point to prove.

THE DEFILED

The show is opened by local boys The Defiled who grace the Islington stage for the 3rd time this year. To give a band the title of best new band in the UK is a bold statement, but that’s where they sit in the eyes of this reviewer. They look the part, put on a great show and definitely have the tunes to go with it. After a circle pit started by the bass player and couple of empty Jager bottles being passed around, Islington has been well and truly warmed up.

After the support band have ripped the Academy a new one, Static-X arrive on stage and grab everyone by the balls and don’t let go for an hour. Launching straight into a frantic Lunatic from the new album, and not long after the opening sounds to ‘Black & White’ is worth the admission alone. Wayne Static is infinitely cool in front of the mic. His unique stage presence, look and playing style means you don’t want to take your eyes off him for a second. “Let’s do shots” he shouts at between songs to which his ex-porn star wife appears onstage to pass out drinks.

Evil Disco is the term now permanently associated with Static-X., and it fits them perfectly. This is one metal show you definitely need to remember you dancing shoes for.
