FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE

THE XX

Florence is one act that I have wanted to see and photo for quite a while. Although it not particularly my favourite type of music usually, her CD is pretty damn good so I was surprised and excited to find there was room for me in the photopit.

There are some absolutely stunning photos of her on the net (check out Ed Fielding’s superb set on Flickr) so I had definitely been inspired by what I had already seen. Light was generally awesome which made things a lot easier then the small gigs I normally get to shoot at… but Florence made things even easier. As a photography subject she was awesome, so many hand gestures and expressions to capture that three songs didn’t feel like nearly enough.

Also have to mention The XX who supported tonight. Definitely one of the more interesting and unique new bands in the indie scene. I don’t even know if there is any hype surrounding them… if not, then there deserves to be. They are playing this same venue next year and it wouldn’t surprise me if they manage to fill it.
