Japanese heavyweights MUCC visit London on their Solid Sphere World Tour….
Japanese bands always tend to have a big following in the UK. Whenever J-Rock bands play here, particularly the last year’s worth of gigs at Islington, fans camp outside the venue for days and the place is filled to the rafters with their misogynous followers.
I was quite shocked to find a nearly empty venue when I turned up and was confused as to why things were so different tonight. Well when they started playing it was pretty obvious. The gig was terrible. Definitely one of the worst shows I’ve seen in recent memory, but then I do find it difficult to get into this kind of music. The difference tonight though is that they don’t carry the same gimmicks as many of the others who have played on this stage. They don’t look like cartoon characters for a start. Photoing was also a nightmare with a horrible orange glow, lots of smoke, and not much other light for the whole of the 3 songs I got to shoot.
