On the same night that Green Day wrapped up the UK leg of the ’21st Century Breakdown’ World Tour, their alter-egos announced a secret midnight gig at the Relentless Garage…..
In a gig where it was announced that anyone taking pictures would be thrown out, I left my camera locked up. Could of gotten away with it, but if the amount of beer that I had thrown on me by a very drunk Reverend Strychnine Twist (aka Billie Joe Armstrong) and company had gotten on my camera then I doubt I would be taking anymore photos for a while.
The gig itself was an absolute riot. Anyone expecting Green Day to of shown up would have left disappointed and tonight was all about their 60′s rock side-project. Billie Joe spent much of the set crowdsurfing, spraying beer at everyone and calling pretty much everyone on the front row “Baby Girl”.
The gig was about 2 hours long, but with only about 30mins worth of material they were going to have to fill up the time. The title track was played no less then six times on the night. After opening with the track then later announced they were going to play it again…. and then they said they could play it better… and better still. And they did.
Besides one Green Day track and a cover of a song from the other side-project, ‘The Network’, the rest of the set was made up of classic covers…
It was definitely a night to remember and I make the track list as something like this….
Stop, Drop and Roll
Mother Mary
Midnight Train
Ruby Room
Blood, Sex and Booze
Highway 1
She’s a Saint, Not a Celebrity
Sally
Alligator
Supermodel Robots
The Pedestrian
27th Avenue Shuffle
Dark Side of Night
Pieces of Truth
Stop, Drop and Roll
Stop, Drop and Roll
Stop, Drop and Roll
Stop, Drop and Roll
27th Avenue Shuffle
My Generation
Johnny B Goode
Blitzkrieg Bop
Red Tide
A Quick One, While He’s Away
Stop, Drop and Roll
(Although Stop, Drop and Roll could have been played more then just 4 times in a row…)

Amazing dude. Flip I would’ve been super down for this but didn’t know about it. Sucks when you attend something rad like this and cannot shoot photos but like you said its not worth the risk some times.
Yeah I wouldn’t have enjoyed the show half as much if I was watching it though a lens. Was great being in the thick of things…
